No, and this is the trap. The millimetre figure against a hose or fitting dash is the bore. The millimetre figure people quote for pipe is the nominal bore name, and it is different — in the trade 1/2 inch pipe is called 15 mm, 3/4 inch pipe is 20 mm, 1 inch is 25 mm, 1-1/4 is 32 mm, 1-1/2 is 40 mm and 2 inch is 50 mm. Note 1/2 inch hose is 12 mm but 1/2 inch pipe is called 15 mm.

Why do 1/4 inch and 1-1/4 inch sound similar in Myanmar?

Take the name the customer uses, convert it to the dash, and repeat both back. Saying "ငါးမှူး — that is 1/2 inch, dash 08, yes?" takes two seconds and removes the most common source of a wrong part. Write the dash on the order, because the dash is what the part number carries and the Myanmar name is not.
