Cylinder liners are ordered by engine code, never by vehicle model — one truck model may have been sold with two different engines over its production run. These are the numbers and checks that take our counter from 93 listings to the right liner for the engine actually in front of you.

What do I need to order a liner?

The engine code stamped on the block, in that order of priority, then the measured bore, then the chassis number as a cross-check. The engine code is definitive: PE6, PD6, FE6, EH700, 13B and T3500 each map to one bore. Ordering by truck model alone is the commonest cause of a returned liner.

How do I read the Nissan and Toyota part numbers?

Nissan diesel liners sit in the 11012 group — 11012-97001 is the PE6 at 115 mm, 11012-96001 the PD6 at 110 mm and 11012-98001 the FE6 at 112 mm. Toyota uses 11461 — 11461-58010 for the 13B at 108 mm and 11461-5000 for the T3500 at 105 mm. Learn those two prefixes and the family is obvious at a glance.

What comes with a liner and what has to be bought separately?

A bare liner is exactly that. For a wet-liner engine you also need the lower O-rings or sealing rings, and those are not optional — a reused O-ring is a coolant leak into the sump. Budget at the same time for pistons, piston rings, a full gasket set including the head gasket, and main and big-end bearings, because the engine will be open anyway.

For a truck that has to work every day, buy the liner and the piston and rings from one supplier where possible, because the ring-to-bore surface finish is designed as a pair. Ask the counter which brand in stock has matching pistons and rings for the same engine — that question saves more money than comparing liner prices.

Can I mix a new liner with the old piston?

Only if the piston measures inside its own wear limits — skirt diameter, ring groove width and pin bore. A worn ring groove lets the ring flutter and hammer the new bore, and the liner you just paid for is scored within months. Measure the piston before you decide; if the measuring equipment is not available, replace them together.

Most replacement liners are supplied already honed to a crosshatch finish and need nothing more than cleaning with soapy water and a brush, then oiling. Do not deglaze a finished liner with a ball hone out of habit. If the liner is supplied semi-finished, the engine builder hones to the specified crosshatch angle and roughness — that is a machine shop decision, not a workshop one.

The engine code from the block, the measured bore to the nearest tenth of a millimetre, the number of cylinders, and the old liner or a photograph of the flange at its top if one is out. With the engine code alone staff can usually name the liner; the other three confirm it before you pay.
