A rack end and a tie rod end sit at opposite ends of the same rod. The rack end screws into the steering rack and is hidden under a rubber bellows; the tie rod end connects to the wheel and is visible behind it. They are different parts with different catalogue numbers, and the rack end is often called the inner tie rod, which is where most of the confusion starts.
