A V-ribbed belt is the single flat belt on the front of the engine that takes power from the crankshaft and drives the alternator, water pump, power steering pump and air-conditioning compressor. It is also called a serpentine belt because it snakes around several pulleys in one continuous loop.
V-Ribbed Belt ဆိုသည်မှာ အင်ဂျင်ရှေ့ဘက်တွင် တပ်ဆင်ထားသော ကြိုးပြားတစ်ခုဖြစ်ပြီး crankshaft မှ စွမ်းအားကို ယူကာ alternator၊ ရေစုပ်၊ power steering pump နှင့် air-con compressor တို့ကို လည်ပတ်စေသည်။ Pulley အများအပြားကို တစ်ဆက်တည်း ရစ်ပတ်သွားသောကြောင့် Serpentine Belt ဟုလည်း ခေါ်သည်။
Why does one belt drive so many parts?

Older engines used two or three separate V-belts, each driving one accessory. A V-ribbed belt replaces them all with one wider, thinner belt. Because it is thin it bends easily around small pulleys, and because it is wide it carries enough load for every accessory at once. This saves space at the front of the engine and means only one belt has to be checked.

What happens if the V-ribbed belt breaks while driving?

Everything the belt drives stops at once. On most vehicles the water pump stops, so the engine begins to overheat within a few minutes. The alternator stops charging, so the battery warning light comes on and the vehicle will run only until the battery is flat. Power steering becomes very heavy. Stop the vehicle safely as soon as it is safe to do so rather than driving on.

Is a V-ribbed belt the same as a timing belt?
V-Ribbed Belt နှင့် Timing Belt တူသလား
No. They are two different belts with two different jobs. A V-ribbed belt is on the outside of the engine and drives the accessories. A timing belt is inside a cover and keeps the camshaft turning in step with the crankshaft. A V-ribbed belt has ribs running along its length on one side; a timing belt has teeth running across its width. Confusing the two when ordering is a common mistake.

How long does a V-ribbed belt normally last?

Modern EPDM rubber belts commonly last between 90,000 and 150,000 kilometres, and older neoprene belts closer to 60,000 kilometres. Heat, oil contamination and a worn tensioner all shorten belt life considerably. Always follow the replacement interval printed in the vehicle service manual rather than a general figure, because the interval differs between makes.
