The classic sign of a worn stabilizer link is a metallic rattle or knock from the front when driving slowly over small bumps, rough tarmac or speed humps. The noise usually comes from one side, is sharper than a bushing thud, and often disappears on a smooth road.

Less urgent than a ball joint or tie rod end, because the link carries no weight and plays no part in steering or braking. The vehicle stays drivable with a worn or even broken link. What you lose is roll control, so the body leans more in corners and feels less settled. Replace it at your next convenient service rather than treating it as an emergency — but do not leave it for a year, since a broken link can swing loose and damage what it hits.

A workshop raises the vehicle, supports it safely, and grips the link to feel for play in either end joint. Because the link carries no load, play can often be felt by hand, which makes this one of the easier suspension faults to confirm. The rubber boots are inspected at the same time, since a split boot means the joint will fail soon even if it feels tight today.
