Different brake noises point to different causes. A high squeal under light braking is the wear indicator telling you the brake pads are low; metallic grinding means the friction material is gone and you should stop driving; a pulsing pedal means a warped or unevenly worn disc.

What does each noise mean?

Different noises point to different causes, and telling them apart saves a wasted workshop visit.
အသံအမျိုးအစား ကွဲပြားမှုက အကြောင်းရင်း ကွဲပြားကြောင်း ဖော်ပြပါသည်။
- A high squeal under light braking is the wear indicator, or a missing or hardened shim. Book a check this month.
- A squeal only when the brakes are cold or damp is surface moisture or an overnight rust film. This is normal and clears within a few stops.
- Metallic grinding means the friction material is gone and steel is cutting into the disc. Stop driving.
- Judder or a pulsing pedal means a warped or unevenly worn disc. Have the vehicle inspected soon.
- A rumble from the rear means worn brake shoes or a scored drum. Have the vehicle inspected soon.
- A single click when setting off is the brake pad settling in the caliper. This is normal.

My brakes squeal only on the first stop of the morning — is that a fault?

No. A thin film of surface rust forms on the disc overnight, especially in the rainy season, and the first few stops scrape it away. If the noise clears within the first minute of driving and does not return, nothing is wrong.

I fitted new pads and they still squeal. Why?

Three usual causes, in order of likelihood: the old shims were reused, the pads were never bedded in, or the caliper slide pins were not cleaned and greased during fitting. All three are installation issues rather than faulty parts. Check them before assuming the pads are at fault.
