Before paying for brake parts, confirm seven points: your vehicle details, front or rear axle, disc or drum for that axle, the part number, the friction material, whether shims or a hardware kit are included, and that the quantity is an axle set rather than a single piece. - Vehicle year, make, model and engine size confirmed
- Front or rear axle confirmed — and disc or drum for that axle
- Part number cross-checked against the old part or the VIN
- Material chosen for how the vehicle is actually used
- Shims included, or a shim kit added
- Hardware kit added for drum brakes
- Quantity is an axle set, not a single piece
Is it worth buying pads and discs together?

Only if the disc is worn, scored or below minimum thickness. If it is in good condition, keep it — a healthy disc will outlast two or three sets of pads. Replacing a good disc adds cost without adding safety.
