Brake Pad Shim အကြောင်း
A brake pad shim is a thin damping layer fitted behind the brake pad. A shim does not affect stopping power — the shim's only job is to absorb the vibration that causes brake squeal — and old shims should never be reused on new pads.

What is a brake pad shim?

A shim is a thin layer — usually steel with a rubber or adhesive facing — fitted to the back of the pad, between the pad and the caliper piston. It is not a spacer and it does not affect stopping power. Its only job is to absorb the high-frequency vibration that braking creates.

Why does a shim stop brake noise?

Brake squeal is vibration at a frequency your ear can hear. The pad, caliper and disc vibrate together like a tuning fork. A shim breaks that resonance by adding a damping layer with different properties, so the vibration never builds into an audible squeal.

If your pads arrive without shims, ask our parts team whether a separate shim kit is available for your part number.

Can I reuse the shims from my old pads?

We do not recommend it. A shim's damping layer hardens with heat over the life of the pad, so an old shim has already lost most of its effect. Reusing one is the most common reason a customer fits brand-new pads and still hears a squeal.
