Two bearings with identical dimensions can behave completely differently depending on the seal type and the internal clearance class. Once the correct one is chosen, the single rule that matters during fitting is that force must never travel from one race to the other through the balls.

Anywhere water, mud or road spray can reach, choose contact seals (2RS). Shields (ZZ) are for clean, enclosed positions such as inside a gearbox where oil is already present and the lower drag matters. Fitting ZZ where 2RS was specified is one of the most common causes of a bearing that lasts months instead of years.

How is a bearing pressed in without damaging it?

Press only on the race that is being fitted. Into a housing, press on the outer race; onto a shaft, press on the inner race. Use a tube or a bearing driver that touches that race alone and clears the seal. If both races must go on at once, the correct tool touches both at the same time. Warming the housing to about 80 to 100 degrees Celsius or cooling the shaft makes the job easier and safer than extra force.

Can I use a bearing with a different clearance class if the size matches?

Not safely. Clearance is chosen for how hot the bearing runs and how tight the fits are. A standard clearance bearing pressed onto an interference-fit shaft loses most of its internal clearance before it even turns, and once hot it runs with preload it was never designed for. Where C3 is specified, fit C3.
