A car battery has two jobs. It supplies the very large current needed to turn the starter motor for a few seconds, and it steadies the electrical system while the engine runs. Once the engine is running the alternator does the supplying, and the battery is being charged rather than being used.

Why does a battery seem fine one day and dead the next?

Because a lead acid battery loses cranking ability suddenly rather than gradually. It can hold enough charge to run the lights and the radio while no longer being able to deliver the few hundred amps the starter needs. That is why voltage alone does not tell you whether a battery is good.

How is a battery properly tested?
ဘက်ထရီကို မှန်မှန်ကန်ကန် ဘယ်လို စစ်ရမလဲ
With a load tester or an electronic conductance tester, not with a voltmeter alone. A fully charged battery reads about 12.6 volts at rest, but a failing one can read the same until current is drawn. The test has to apply a load and watch how far the voltage falls and how fast it recovers.
Voltmeter တစ်ခုတည်းဖြင့် မဟုတ်ဘဲ load tester သို့မဟုတ် electronic conductance tester ဖြင့် စစ်ရသည်။ အားပြည့်သော ဘက်ထရီသည် ငြိမ်နေချိန်တွင် ၁၂.၆ ဗို့ခန့် ပြပြီး ပျက်တော့မည့်တစ်လုံးသည်လည်း လျှပ်စီး မဆွဲမချင်း တူညီစွာ ပြနိုင်သည်။ ဝန်တစ်ခု တင်ပြီး ဗို့အား ဘယ်လောက် ကျသည်၊ ဘယ်လောက် မြန်မြန် ပြန်တက်သည် ကြည့်ရမည်။
Does a new battery need charging before fitting?

Check the voltage first. A new battery that has sat in stock for months can be well below full charge, and fitting it in that state means the alternator has to do a bulk charge it was never designed for. A slow charge on a proper charger before fitting adds years to its life.
