The Original Equipment (OE) number is the most reliable way to match a tie rod end, because the OE number comes from the vehicle manufacturer and describes the exact part your vehicle left the factory with. Year, make and model alone are not enough, because manufacturers fit different steering hardware to different trim levels of the same model.

What does the OE number tell me about the make?

The opening digits usually identify the manufacturer. Numbers beginning 53540 or 53560 are Honda steering parts; 45046 and 45047 are Toyota; 56820 is Hyundai or Kia; 48810 is Suzuki; numbers beginning MB are Mitsubishi; D8520 is Nissan; D651 is Mazda. This is useful as a sanity check when a listing's brand code appears to name a different make.

Do I need a wheel alignment after fitting?

Yes, always. The tie rod end sets the toe angle of the wheel, so replacing one changes the alignment by definition. Skipping the alignment produces rapid and uneven tyre wear, often visible within a few weeks, and can make the vehicle pull to one side. Budget for the alignment at the same time as the part.
