The Techmaflex machines are second-hand — what does that mean for me?

They are individual machines, not stock items. Each carries its own serial number — PE-38 serial 0410102376 and PE-38 Twin serial 0410102377 — and each is listed as Used, condition excellent. That means one of each, and once it is sold it is gone. What power supply do they need?

The Techmaflex PE-38 runs on 220 to 240 V three phase. That is the single most important thing to check before buying one — a workshop on single-phase supply cannot run it without a phase converter or a new supply. The used PE-38 is listed as including a full 13-die set and it has automatic die positioning. How do I know which die to use?

The die is chosen by the finished crimp diameter the fitting maker specifies, not by the hose bore. That figure depends on the hose, the ferrule and the fitting together, so the same 1/2 inch hose can take different crimp diameters with different ferrules. How do I check a crimp came out right?

Measure it. Put a caliper across the crimped ferrule at two or three points around it and compare against the specified crimp diameter. An undercrimp lets the hose pull out under pressure; an overcrimp cuts the wire braid inside and the hose bursts later. Should I buy a machine or have hoses made up?

If you make up a few hoses a month, bring the hose and fittings to us and we will crimp them — you avoid the machine, the dies and the crimp specs entirely. A machine earns its place when downtime costs more than the machine, typically a fleet workshop or a plant that cannot wait for a hose.
