Body mounts are ordered by position, not by vehicle alone, because a single truck uses several different mounts along its length. Getting the position right is most of the job, and the rest is making sure the height and the rubber hardness match what the factory fitted.

How do I describe the position at the counter?

Count from the front. Say which number mounting point from the front of the chassis, which side, and whether it is the upper or lower half if the mount comes in two pieces. A photograph from underneath with something in it for scale is worth more than any description — position is the one thing a part number cannot tell you if you do not already have it.

Does the rubber hardness matter?

It does, and it is the difference most copies get wrong. Too soft and the body moves too much and the doors go out of line under load. Too hard and every road shock goes straight into the cabin, which is what people mean when they say a replacement mount made the truck ride worse. Buy the grade specified for the position rather than the cheapest rubber that fits the hole.

What happens if the mount height is wrong?

The body sits at a different height at that point, which twists the structure very slightly and shows up as a door gap, a bonnet that no longer closes flush, or a windscreen that cracks from stress. On a cab-over truck the tilt mechanism also stops latching correctly. Height is measured on the old mount before it is thrown away.

Plan on it. Body mount bolts are long, they pass through the chassis rail, and they sit in the wettest and dirtiest part of the vehicle — a large share shear on removal no matter how carefully you work. Order the bolts, the large load-spreading washers and the retainer cups with the mounts so the job is not stopped halfway.

Replacing one or two mounts, yes, with the body supported properly. Replacing a full set means lifting the body clear of the chassis, which needs the right lifting equipment and someone who has done it before. The risk is not the parts — it is a body lifted on inadequate supports with a person underneath.

Can worn body mounts affect anything other than noise?

Several things. The gear linkage, the exhaust and the radiator hoses all bridge between body and chassis, so extra movement stresses each of them — a cracked exhaust flexi and a split top hose are common secondary damage. On a cab-over truck the steering column also crosses that joint, which is why the steering can feel imprecise long before anyone suspects a mount.
