On a vehicle with a separate chassis, the body or cab does not sit on the frame — it floats above it on a set of rubber mounts. Those mounts take every shock the suspension does not, and when they collapse the whole vehicle feels loose in a way that no suspension part will explain. We list around 560 of them.

Which vehicles have body mounts?

Any vehicle with a body-on-frame construction — pickups, most light trucks, many SUVs and every cab-over truck. A monocoque car has no separate body mounts because the body and the structure are the same thing, though it will have subframe mounts that do a similar job for the engine cradle and the rear axle carrier.

What does a failed body mount feel like?

A heavy clunk over bumps that seems to come from under the cabin rather than from a wheel, doors and panels that no longer line up, and on a truck a cab that visibly rocks relative to the chassis when you pull away. On a cab-over truck a collapsed front mount also tilts the cab and makes the steering column feel out of place.

Why do doors stop lining up?

Because the body is no longer sitting where it was built to sit. If one mount has collapsed by ten millimetres the body twists slightly, and door gaps that were even from the factory become wide at the top and tight at the bottom on one side. It is the cheapest diagnostic there is — walk around the vehicle and look at the gaps.

How are body mounts numbered?

Are all the mounts on one vehicle the same?

Rarely. A body typically has several mounting points down each side and the loads differ at each, so the rubber hardness and the mount height change along the length. Consecutive Winpower numbers such as YF22035, YF22036 and YF22037 are usually the different positions on one vehicle, not three alternatives for the same place.

Can they be replaced one at a time?

Mechanically yes, and it is sometimes the only practical option because replacing all of them means lifting the body off the chassis. But a single new mount among old ones carries more than its share of the load and the body still sits crooked. If the budget allows, do them in symmetrical pairs at minimum.

What has to be checked when they are replaced?

The chassis rail and the body floor around each mounting point, because a mount that has been collapsed for a long time lets metal contact metal and starts corrosion exactly where you cannot see it. Also check the bolts — body mount bolts are long, they live in the worst place for rust, and they frequently shear on removal. Order spares before you start.
