A washer system that has stopped is almost never one expensive failure. It is a split pipe, a blocked jet, a blown fuse, a dry reservoir or a pump that has seized from sitting in stale water. Working through them in order finds the fault in ten minutes and usually costs the price of a metre of pipe.

What is checked first when nothing happens?

Listen at the reservoir with the switch pressed. If the pump hums, the electrics are fine and the fault is fluid, pipe or jets. If it is silent, check the fuse, then the connector at the pump, then the earth. This one test splits the whole job in half in five seconds.

Why does a pump seize?

Running it dry, or leaving stale water in the reservoir so deposits build on the impeller. Running the pump dry for even ten seconds can overheat it, which is why topping up before testing matters. A seized pump is a cheap part but it usually takes the wheel arch liner off to reach it.

Why does the fluid spray in the wrong place?

The jet has been knocked by a cloth or a car wash brush. Re-aim with a pin. If the spray is a fan instead of a jet, or dribbles down the bonnet, the orifice is worn or partly blocked — a new jet costs very little and both sides should be set to match.
