Oil filters come in two forms. A spin-on filter is a sealed steel canister that screws onto the engine complete with its own housing. A cartridge filter, also called an element, is a bare paper element that drops into a permanent housing on the engine. Your engine takes one or the other — they are not interchangeable.

How do I know which my engine takes?

Look at what is fitted now. If you see a metal canister about the size of a drinks can screwed onto the engine block, that is a spin-on. If you see a plastic or metal cap with a hexagon or notches on top, usually near the top of the engine, that is a cartridge housing and the filter inside is a paper element. Searching your Original Equipment number will also return the correct form.

What is different about fitting each one?

The steps and the parts differ, which matters when you order.
အဆင့်များနှင့် ပစ္စည်းများ ကွဲပြားပြီး မှာယူချိန်တွင် အရေးကြီးပါသည်။
- Spin-on — the whole unit is replaced, sealing ring included. Lightly oil the new ring, check the old ring came away with the old filter, and tighten by hand.
- Cartridge — only the paper element is replaced, and it normally comes with new O-rings for the housing cap. Those O-rings must be renewed or the housing will leak.
- A cartridge kit that arrives without O-rings is incomplete — check the listing before ordering.
- Both are replaced at every oil change regardless of type.
Spin-On တွင် Seal ကွင်းအပါအဝင် တစ်ခုလုံး လဲရပါသည်။ Cartridge တွင် စက္ကူအလွှာသာ လဲပြီး အဖုံးအတွက် O-Ring အသစ်များ ပါဝင်ရပါမည်။ O-Ring မပါသော Cartridge သည် မပြည့်စုံပါ။
Why does the double sealing ring matter on a spin-on?

Because if the old rubber ring stays stuck to the engine when the old filter comes off, and a new filter is fitted on top of it, there are two rings where there should be one. The seal then fails under pressure and the engine can lose its oil within minutes of starting. Always check the mating face is clean and that the old ring came away.
