The Original Equipment (OE) number is the only reliable way to match a control arm, because a control arm sets the suspension geometry and a part from a different platform will not position the wheel correctly. Year, make and model are not enough — manufacturers build several platforms under one model name and change them mid-generation.

Where do I find the OE number?

Control arms usually carry the number cast or stamped into the metal, often on the flat face near the inner mounting points. Clean the surface before looking, since road dirt and underseal hide it. The vehicle handbook or a service record may also list it, and our parts team can look it up from your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

What should I confirm on the listing?

Check these five points before ordering.

- The Original Equipment number matches your vehicle record.
- The side — left or right, or no marking if the part fits both.
- The position — upper or lower, front or rear.
- Whether the arm comes with the ball joint and bushings fitted.
- The vehicle make named on the listing, remembering that platform sharing means a badge you do not recognise is not necessarily wrong.

Do I need a wheel alignment afterwards?

Yes, always, and this one is not negotiable. The control arm defines the camber and caster angles of the wheel as well as contributing to toe. Fitting a new arm without aligning afterwards leaves the wheel at the wrong angle, which wears tyres rapidly and can make the vehicle unstable under braking. Budget for the alignment at the same time as the part.
