An air filter must match the airbox it sits in exactly — its length, width, depth and the shape of its sealing edge. A filter a few millimetres out will either not close the airbox or will leave a gap that lets unfiltered air past. The Original Equipment (OE) number is what guarantees those dimensions.

Where do I find the number?

Printed on the rubber sealing edge of the old filter, which is the easiest number to read on any filter because it is moulded rather than inked. Open the airbox, lift the old filter out and read the edge. The vehicle handbook lists it too, and our parts team can look it up from your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

What is the A-code on some listings?

It is a filter catalogue cross-reference, and it appears on many of our air filter listings as A182J, A-1193, A1725, A1128 or similar. It identifies the filter within a filter-maker's own numbering rather than within the vehicle manufacturer's. It is useful for matching against a filter you have used before, but the Original Equipment number is what ties the part to your vehicle.
