Where no handbook is available, the practical guide for Myanmar conditions is the shorter of the two intervals your oil supplier gives — city traffic, dust and heat all shorten oil life, and a filter working in dusty conditions fills faster than the same filter on open highway.

These conditions all fill a filter faster than open-road driving.

- Stop-start city traffic, where the engine runs for long periods without reaching steady temperature.
- Dusty and unsealed roads, which load the air intake and put more dust into the oil.

- Long idling, common in traffic, which is harder on oil than steady driving.

Can I change the filter without changing the oil?

There is little point. Changing the filter drains only the small amount of oil held inside it, so the dirty oil in the sump stays where it is and immediately contaminates the new filter. The two are changed together because each protects the other. If cost is the concern, extending the interval slightly is a better decision than splitting the job.
