What does "flareless" mean?

It means the tube is not flared — you cut it square and the fitting does the rest. A sleeve, sometimes called a ferrule, bites into the tube as the nut tightens and forms the seal. No flaring tool, no heat, no special tube end. How do I read the dashes?

Sixteenths of an inch, as everywhere else here. -02 = 1/8" · -03 = 3/16" · -04 = 1/4" · -05 = 5/16". First dash is the tube, second is the other port. So C2404-SS-03-02 is 3/16 inch tube to a 1/8 inch male NPTF. Why stainless rather than brass?

Three reasons: corrosion, pressure and temperature. Stainless holds up where brass corrodes — instrument lines, chemical plant, anything near salt or steam — and it takes more pressure at the same size. How tight, and can I take it apart again?

Tighten by hand to the stop, then about one and a quarter turns with a spanner until you feel the sleeve bite. Once set, the joint can be broken and remade on the same tube in the same body — nip it up a little past the old position. What about stainless seizing as I tighten it?

Stainless galls — two stainless surfaces can cold-weld under load and the nut jams half-tightened. Use an anti-seize compound on the nut thread, tighten steadily, and never use a power tool.
