Clutch & Transmission

The clutch connects the engine to the gearbox and lets you change gear and move off smoothly. This group covers the disc, the cover or pressure plate, the release bearing and the hydraulics that operate them — with the four measurements that decide whether a disc fits and the tests that separate a slipping clutch from a dragging one.   • Clutch Discs

    The friction plate that connects the engine to the gearbox.   • Clutch Covers & Pressure Plates

    The spring-loaded assembly bolted to the flywheel that clamps the disc. It does the clamping and the disc only does the gripping, so a heavy pedal or a new disc that slips immediately is usually answered here.   • Release Bearings

    The small bearing that lets a stationary fork push the spinning diaphragm fingers.   • Clutch Hydraulics

    The master cylinder, slave cylinder and pipe that turn pedal force into hydraulic pressure.
